33% reduction in Iranian pistachios in 2021

The spokesman of Iran’s customs said: due to drought and damage to pistachio crop, the export of pistachios in 2021 compared to 2020 has resulted in a 33% reduction in weight and value.

According to the Mehr news agency, Seyyed Ruhollah Latifi stated that 135,322 tons of pistachios worth 914,427,826 dollars were exported to 75 countries in 2021, stating: Of the total exports of 135,322 tons Last year, 115,557 tons of pistachios were fresh skinned pistachios with a value of 696 million 43 thousand 124 dollars.

The Iranian customs spokesman added: “The first five countries to buy pistachios for skin export were China with $ 199 million, India with $ 85 million, Russia with $ 53 million, Iraq with $ 50 million and Kyrgyzstan with $ 45 million, respectively.”

Regarding the export of shelled pistachios, he said: “The export of shelled pistachios was more than 19 thousand 336 tons and was worth 215 million 879 thousand 22 dollars. Germany bought 50 million dollars, India 44 million dollars, and the UAE 29 Million dollars, Iraq $ 25 million and Turkey $ 13 million were the five export destinations of this type of Iranian pistachio.

He said: “Due to drought and damage to pistachio crop, reduced production of this crop last year and the entry of pistachios in other countries into world markets, unfortunately the export of pistachios in 2021 compared to 2020 has resulted in a 33% reduction in weight and value.”
